Here is a brief look at a few airport life-cycle extension and carbon-management products that Pavement Technology, Inc. offers. 

PlusTi Ti-Intro CME® All-Surface Carbon and Pollutant Removal Technology  

PlusTi Ti-Intro CME penetrant is a retrofit solution that uses Photo Catalytic Technology (PCT) to remove airfield-borne carbon dioxide, decrease pollutants, reduce pavement emissivity, and accelerate moisture dispersion on airfield runways, taxiways, concourse parking ramps, automotive access roads, and parking infrastructures.  

PCT uses a titanium-dioxide photocatalyst that reduces surface heat radiation while destroying emissions-related carbon and pollutants (including airfield tire-wear debris, i.e., microplastics – MPP) – overall reducing the Heat Island Effect and improving air and groundwater quality.  

Every square yard of treated infrastructure removes over 12 kg CO₂ per sq/yd per year. These treatments can be used ion both asphalt and concrete surfaces.  

JOINTBOND^{Ti ®} super-hydrophilic longitudinal joint stabilizer and ARA1-Ti asphalt rejuvenator  

• PlusTi^TM JOINTBOND^Ti stabilizer revitalizes and improves longitudinal joint density and seals other critical asphalt structures. The emulsion combines Maltene Replacement Technology (MRT) with Photo Catalytic Technology (PCT). 

• ARA1-Ti is an MRT x PCT product that targets access roads and parking structures around the airport.  

Litho1000 Ti® concrete sealer/hardener  

Litho1000 Ti is a lithium-silicate sealer/hardener that seals and waterproofs concrete surfaces by significantly reducing the concrete’s permeability and sorptivity. It protects against the adverse effects of de-icing salts, freeze/thaw cycling, and marine environments. This product is also enhanced with PCT.

Norm Sabol reports this friendly guy turned up announced and unexplained at a job site while Norm was doing traffic control at an intersection on a country road. The entire crew swears it’s true and brought back a couple of photos to prove it. According to Norm, “He hung around awhile to say hi and then just sort of wandered off. I guess he was just as nosy about what we were doing out there as we were about him.”

While on the road for PTI, one of the many downtime activities enjoyed by our Southern Operations Construction Manager, Mike Faustini, is golf – and according to Mike, there is no more rewarding place to play than at the Construction Career Days Golf Tournament in Northeast Florida.

PTI has been participating in this charity event since 2017, most recently as a Platinum Sponsor. In 2021, it was Mike who represented us on the course – doing PTI proud by winning the Longest Putt Contest portion of a tournament that attracted 144 golfers!

Mike reflects, “As more people visit or relocate to the State of Florida, the need for qualified construction workers grows. To support the increasing population, we need everything from roadways to homes to shopping centers down here. All of these things require skilled construction workers – and their numbers have been dwindling.

“The Construction Career Days event raises scholarship funds to introduce young high school students to the wide range of career opportunities available to

them in this hands-on environment. All I did was take my shot and sink the longest putt; those kids are the real winners.”

Tom recalls, “You really can have some close encounters with the wild down there. We’ve come across all kinds of animals — pelicans, cranes, alligators, tortoises, frogs, wild boar. One time I even saw a bobcat.

“The East coast of Florida is a great place to work. Over in Palm Bay, there’s a Cuban bakery that makes the best Cuban sandwiches ever. We eat there every day when we’re in the area, having a sandwich and an espresso with steamed milk. We place our orders in broken Spanish. After work and on weekends, we head out on our excursions and just enjoy the day.”

“I was driving a brand new truck down to our crew in Tampa, when the darn thing broke down in Georgia. I ended up having to loan a car from a dealership, while I hung around Georgia until the malfunctioning part got replaced.

“Well I made sure to get myself a large car so I could fold the seats down and take my bike and some coolers out to explore a bit. I set out for Jekyll Island State Park, and just about the first thing I see is this dream catcher in the brush. I don’t really know how it started, but everybody who goes by it leaves a trinket of some sort. It looks like it’s been decorated for years, and I was feeling the need to add to the collection.

“There was plenty more to see too. Stumps like this one where the driftwood had landed on the beach and been bleached white from the winds and the sand and the water blowing in off the Atlantic. There was just no way I was going to sit around in a hotel room playing video games while they fixed our truck when there were places like this to see.”

PTI crews spend a lot of time in the State of Kentucky. Some of the hardier crew members, like PTI’s Senior Supervisor Chuck McNamee, use their days off to hike the challenging trails in nearby Daniel Boone National Forest.

“I spend 180 or so days of our season out of town and out of state. There are some places I really look forward to seeing. There is so much free land out there to explore to hike, to mountain bike.

“The ledges and rock formations in Daniel Boone National Forest make a great side trip. When I was a kid, my family spent a lot of time up at Whipp’s Ledges in Hinkley, Ohio, climbing crevices, exploring a few caves. Getting out to the Kentucky ledges reminds me of all those hours we used to spend in the woods.

“This country of ours has such a beautiful park system. Some of us on the crew like to get out there to explore them every chance we get.”
